Trinidad and Tobago Carnival the greatest show in the world will be held on Monday 7th and Tuesday 8th March 2011. This period is anticipated by all involved from the costume designer to the wire bender, the calypso song writers to the performers, the promoters to the street vendors, and masqueraders as they wait the displaying of their colourful attire. These are the factors that are fast becoming the representation of the carnival culture, and the traditional aspect being forgotten.
Libraries have a critical role to play in educating and enriching its users, with information and resources about traditional carnival season. By promoting and displaying images of carnival characters like Baby Doll, Dame Lorraine and Fancy Clown to name a few, also showcasing the importance and the influence of the Camboulay Riot to carnival, and paying tribute to the evolution of calypso and calypsonians.
